Cockatiels, like other birds, have a system of air sacs that help them breathe efficiently. These air sacs are connected to their lungs and allow them to extract oxygen from the air more effectively than mammals. The lungs of a cockatiel are relatively small compared to their body size, but they are highly efficient. The air sacs in their respiratory system allow for a unidirectional flow of air through their lungs, which means that oxygen-rich air flows in one direction while oxygen-poor air flows out in another. Cockatiels have a highly sensitive respiratory system and can be affected by pollutants, dust, and other irritants in the air. This sensitivity means that they are vulnerable to respiratory infections and diseases. As a result, candles in the home can pose a serious threat to the health of your feathered friend.

Traditional candles produce soot and release artificial fragrances, which can accumulate on surfaces and in the air. As an alternative, electric flameless candles eliminate both of those potential pollutants. From an aesthetic perspective, older iterations of electric candles can appear cheesy and lack the ambiance of lit flame. Luckily - newer electric candles solve that problem. Flameless flickering candles allow bird owners to enjoy all the visual aspects of a live flame with out the safety risks to their pets.
